German exams in Cairo: First successes in DSK’s ÖSD school project

The DSK in Cairo has successfully held the first German examinations as part of the ‘ÖSD school project’.

This project, which has been presented in various schools since December 2023, aims to promote students learning German as a foreign language through the internationally recognised ÖSD German examinations. The first round of exams took place in May 2024 and was a great success.

Atmosphere and organisation of German exams for children

The exams were taken by students aged 10 to 15 years old, who were selected according to the CEFR and ÖSD age recommendations. They came from various partner schools in Cairo, New Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh to take an international German exam directly at the ÖSD examination centre.

Before the exam, some of the children were in an anxious mood, reports Dr Mai Hassan, Head of the DSK International Academy. A friendly welcome and a relaxed atmosphere in the waiting room with juice, water and snacks helped to reduce the children’s nervousness and exam anxiety.

After the exam, the mood was much more relaxed, reports Dr Mai Hassan. The children were happy, took photos and videos and were delighted with their achievements.

Importance of the German certificate for children

The ÖSD certificates offer young students numerous advantages:

• Motivation: The certificates motivate children and young people to continue learning and achieve higher language levels.
• Language competence: The exams can be seen as an excellent opportunity to improve the four skills (speaking, listening, writing, reading) in language learning, as the students are intensively trained in them.
• Future prospects: Many students dream of studying or working in German-speaking countries. The ÖSD certificates are an important prerequisite for realising these dreams.

Central organisation of KID examinations at the examination centre

The KID exams of the ÖSD are offered by the DSK International Academy on a monthly basis. This is a great opportunity for international schools in Egypt, especially in Cairo and the surrounding areas, to find suitable dates. As part of the ‘ÖSD School Project’, the ÖSD German exams are held at the examination centre. Suitable facilities, qualified invigilators and security checks ensure that the exams run smoothly.

The successful realisation of the German exams shows how important such projects are for the promotion of language skills and the expansion of students’ future prospects.
